You guys are definitely aware the br1 was released!

If you guys are confused to how it works, the bonus round prompt was basically to either post a prompt consisting of a ship (not our own) andtwo genres or to fill one of the given prompts. Each prompt gets +5 points. The first five fills per team get +30 points each, the next five get+20, the five after that get +10, and everything after that gets +5.

So basically:

Ally, you can only draw four pictures. I'd recommend drawing a picture that goes with each writer's section. With that being said, you may want to ask the authors for details of... what exactly goes on in their part so you know what to draw.

Remember that communication is essential, guys. We want our story and art to be quality and consistent. Minor mess ups can be corrected once everything is compiled together but we don't want them building up. Consider sending your part to the others and leaving annotations and recommendations! "It'd be cool if you used this palette" and "wow could they do this" is definitely good.

Alright, so the prompt’s been out for two days and we’ve already picked out a general idea. Though the round ends in almost three weeks, we’ve got to get started on this soon. You see, br1 starts next week and, like last time, I want us to more than participate. Not to mention the collab round which we’ve also got to get started on.

We’ve got a general idea of our prompt, so making the preliminary posts regarding ideas and voting seems rather unnecessary. Instead, I’m going to skip right over to the details of our given idea in another post. Remember that you can always message me to add or change something, given the rest of the group approves!

By the way, I still want your analyses. Try to have them up by Monday at the latest?

Prompts for Main Round One and the Collab Round go up in approximately seven minutes at the time that I type this. We have an extra week for both, and Bonus Round One info will be posted next week.

No matter what the prompts are and how hard it's going to be, we're going to do this together and it's going to be awesome :D. You guys have really blown me out of the water so far, completely screwing over my low expectations, and I'm so excited to be working with you. Alright, so the day we’ve been waiting for is here! Tonight at midnight (er, 11:59 PM EST) they are releasing the Main Round One prompts, which signals the actual start of the competition. I decided to make this to sort of get everyone clear on how things will run as soon as it’s released.

I will make a “hey guys the prompt is going to be released let’s get hyped” post.
Any other loose ends should be tied up.
The prompt will be released.
Everyone will be asked to read the post regarding the specifics of the prompt.
I. If anyone has an idea that’s really sticking out to them, or an idea at all really, they’ll be recorded and listed in another post.
II. a) If no one has a really good idea, then I'll go around and ask that everyone think of one.
b) If no one can think of one, she’ll ask that they pick out a medium to work with and build from there. The list of ideas will be viewed by everyone in the group. Everyone will vote for their favorite/the best idea. Roles will be assigned, breaking down the project.
A check or two will be implemented in which everyone posts a WIP shot or a scrap or something.
When everyone is done with their part, we'll exchange work and peer edit.
Once that is done, we'll consolidate everything into a first draft of a finished fill.
From there, we'll continue to edit and perfect our submission.
Everyone will do a final check over the art and ensure that it's as good as we can make it.
We'll find a way to host it, if necessary.
When it's ready to go, I'll send an email to the mods with our fill.

I also wanted to remind you that you are not allowed to publish anything of post until the mods give us the okay. I know that some of you like to do WIP posts on Tumblr or Facebook, but you really can't do this! I'm actually going to request that all posts on the comm made regarding our art on the prompt be marked as "members only".

• Bonus Round Zero
Okay guys, I am amazed at how well you all did to conforming to my deadline! Everyone managed to post their art in time. I'm so proud of you c:

Now that we've all handed in something, I'd like to move onto secondary fills. To get the maximum amount of points from the bonus round, I'd like us to make a total of ten sets of art. Since Ally made something for an additional ship, we only need two more people to create another submission. I'll be going around in search of a member to art later. I'd like to have this person post their set by Thursday of this week.

• Pre-Game Promotional
I'm also super proud of you all for doing the pre-game promotional with the exception of Keyra. Good work :D.

• Shipping Names
And, of course, we're still looking for titles to our ship. Send me your ideas!

• How to break out of our comfort zone
There are a bunch of common ways in which fanwork is portrayed. Most of the time it's through fan fiction, fan art, or a hash of the two. Other common fan things are cosplay and voice acting (or a hash of the two: live action). Less common: animation, sculpting, interprative dance. Fan songs. Nail art. Creative Suddenly Pasta.

There are a lot of different ways that we can tackle each prompt, and I can tell you already that we - like most the other teams - are going to try and flock to fic + art.

Fic + Art will be the simplest thing for us to do: it includes everyone, is generally easy, and can be pretty awesome. The flaws are that everyone will be doing this, we will have obnoxious restrictions, and, after a while, it's going to get boring. My solution would be to take this concept, use it once, then jump into something 'different' that we can do well that will capture the hearts of Team English and the other shippers alike. It's a real risky move, but with preparation I think we can do it.

Us doing something that is not exactly of the norm requires us to do things outside of our norm - things we're not comfortable doing, necessarily. We need to seriously break out and extend our comfort zone and soon.

I'd say that we ease into this gently - if you act, try voice acting.If you write fics, try writing song lyrics. If you draw, try decorating a cake. If you make FSTs, try writing music.

I'm going to make a post with the specifics but I think that every week for the entire duration of the games I'm going to have us do little things to try and get us to really test our abilities. I don't know if I'll really have us do this for the entire game, but I'm going to have us to this at least once so we can get the feel of something new. It's going to be annoying and your results may suck, but it's the experience that I'm trying to get at!

• How to Ship

Another concept that sounds brutally obnoxious, but is pretty necessary?

It occurred to me that not all of us are regular ~shippers, and that we might require a good push in the right direction when it comes to this sort of thing. Alternatively, for our regulars, we might actually do better if we... actually ship the ship we're supporting? So I want to have a post wherein we collect our thoughts on... how to jump on board with a ship, how to create things, and things of that sort.

• How we are going to art

Like I said before, there are a bunch of distinct art forms and - though the prompt will determine which we use - I would like to at least establish some base types that we can actually utilize. Once we better define our abilities, I'll make a post where we can list and collect our ideas.

• Analysis

This is probably what you're looking forward to most! The more I think about it, the more unlikely it seems that we'll be able to actually get started letalone finish our analyses by Friday. Instead, I'm offering an alternative: find a pre-existing analysis of your assigned character/topic. If you can't find anything - sorry kid - but I want a ≥15 bullet list (with linked evidence) based on your topic.

• Roll Call
I received an email regarding roll call, which starts... now, I guess? It basically requests that I send you guys a message saying to contact me. So I'll send out a message and I'd like you guys to respond saying that you're alive and still in the game.

• Required Reading
Be sure to check out the most recent updates. They’re pretty much setting up the basis for our ship. This is must for all team members, regardless of place in the comic!

• Upcoming things
I’m going to sweep through and see what other dates are coming up. The games start on Friday, June 2nd.

• Team Chats/Meet ups
I’m also want to have at least one online full team meet up before the start of the game. The meet up with pretty much be a required twenty minute Skype chat. Afterwords, we'll discuss any subsequent full team chats and a possible meet up?

• Team Shuffle
Another Team Shuffle post has been released! I'm going to send one of you (not Kristina since she did it last time, or any of the people who do an additional br0 post - actually this person is probably going to be me because there's no one else) to the post to comment and try to get some people on our team. Hi! Okay, to start off, let's give a shout out to Ally/thatfeatheryprick for actually posting her br0 banner! She's the first to actually participate in the bonus round (apart from me, but I don't think I really count). Remember that I want all preliminary bonus round entries posted by this Monday.

On to the next thing!

Dear shippers, my name is Satan and I hope you are ready because I am putting you through hell for a while. With the games approaching it's pretty essential that we at least learn about our characters, along with picking out what we want their ~dynamic to be like, and all the things of the sort. That pretty much boils down to: we need to analyze. We need to get into the minds' of our characters and figure out what the hell is going on. We need to find a way to make this ship work and goddamit, we are going to do this right.

If you go back about two posts, I talk about the different types of things we need to analyze and generally how. I've split each of those four categories into seven different jobs that can be given to each one of us. I've come up with a strongly suggested distribution of jobs and have listed it below. If you want to request a swap, please contact me. This is definitely a possible thing.

I've split all things Terezi into two groups since she was the... what, second troll to be introduced, maybe? We meet her early on in the comic and there's a lot to cover regarding her.

Keyra's job cannot be done without the analysis of Jake and Terezi at least being partially done or started, so note: Kristina, Valerie, we need to do that relatively quick as to give her time to do her part.

Dear Ally, I'm sorry, but you're more or less stuck with studying the aesthetics of Jake, the Prospitian family minus Jane (Jake, John, Jade, Grandpa, Grandma), and the spiderbitches plus Redglare (Aranea, Vriska, Mindfang). You could probably swap positions with one of those who prefer writing, but I wouldn't recommend it too much. You're stuck there because...

Georgia and Skye have to work on the aesthetics of Terezi since they're both mid-comic! Yay! Looking at all the Jake info would be a huge spoiler as they'd be pretty much skipping Act 5 to get to Act 6. While there is quite a bit of Terezi in Act 6, Skye could easily cover that since she read some of it already.

There's a lot of flexibility among the writing positions, but I figured that everyone would be pleased with what I chose for them. If you really hate it, contact me asap.

People on two-part Terezi teams should equally divide the work.

All analyses are required to be posted on this comm since everyone needs to read the information. I'd like to have this done completely by next Wednesday but that is subject to change.

If you are having trouble, consult the wikia and search the web for previously created analyses. Otherwise, you will generally be sticking close to canon.

Nick of Team English will be around to help out with analysis if necessary. If he decides to hop on board this team, I'll have him fill out the questionnaire but as of right now should be contacted through me unless necessary (or unless you decide to totally disregard this because you already have his contact info). I've assigned him to aesthetic analysis right now since both girls in that category haven't actually finished the comic yet and he could be a huge help there. His job isn't concrete as of now.

After this is done or is nearly done, we will begin to exchange headcanons regarding the character so that we can create a base Jake and Terezi to work with. This doesn't mean that every detail will be used in every submission (ex: humanstuck!Terezi can be Portuguese one round and Korean the next) but we should at least have something to start with (ex: she maintains being blind from entry to entry and maintains having strong feels for doing the right thing).

Additionally, I'm still looking for a couple of things from - specifically ship names and references/resources. Please send some in?

In some upcoming posts, I'm going to be covering a couple of new topics, though it more or less boils down to "how do we create the best fan art we can?" That process is already underway with the whole "references/resources" thing and is going to be followed with "how do we step out of our comfort zone?" and "how to get into a shippy mood/how to be a shipper". I'll also post up the general process of how I want to go about tackling the main rounds, but we have time for that.

Lastly, cross your fingers! Hopefully someone will gift us a Jakezi banner/icon set ;u;

Hey guys! I’ve got a couple of things to bring up, and I have to say that they’re not all pleasant. We’ve reached the super essential, super important, super obnoxious part of the HSO. I’ll lead up to more information on that!

Roll call will be taking place starting on May 28th! You will have four days to post on this comm or message me saying that you're still alive. This is sort of stupid because I'm sure that we're all participating, but I need you to do this anyway. I'll post again when it comes up.

Also, if you have any references for whatever type of work you do, start posting them to the community. This isn't required (as of right now) but is insanely recommended. Please try to have something in before the start of the games! You can post references at absolutely any time you want.

We also need to begin considering what types of work we can work on by collaborating as a team and keeping within the strict and sometimes obnoxious constraints. Here are some types that I've thought up - please think of some others? I'll be around to fish for ideas later.

Fic + art - the best and simplest thing we can do as a group given our capabilities. Big headache for: everyone.
An animation/flash game - more difficult but definitely aesthetically pleasing and great for the collab round. Big headache for: the artists, who have to actually make the thing. Good headache for the writers who have to make the story.
Music + art - In which we take song lyrics and turn them into a long one panel/split into ten panel art. Big headache for: the artists; smaller headache for the writers who have to describe the pictures.

We have some more time to discuss this and could generally ~wing it, but think about it, please?

Onto the super brain killer: we need to start analyzing. Generally, we need to find out what Jake and Terezi are like as characters, what they look like, what their friends are like, then come up with a conclusion on how we think Jake and Terezi will react to each other. It seems simple enough - believe me, it goes a lot deeper. See how (with the worst examples ever):

We need to find out what Jake and Terezi are like as characters - that means going through pesterlogs and all of their actions throughout the comic to see how they act, why they act that way, what they are thinking at the time, what they are feelings, etc. Ex: Terezi only bonded with her lusus upon going blind -> she values being blind -> she also might have been very lonely as a grub.
What they look like - get as many details from canon that we can use to describe what they look like. Ex: comparing heights to find out how tall they are: if John is shorter than Jade, who is slightly taller than Dave, who is shorter than Karkat, who is shorter than Gamzee, then John is shorter than Gamzee. Now do that with Jake and Terezi.
What their friends are like - find characteristics within Jake and Terezi that can be seen in that of their friends by going through pesterlogs and flashes and compare them to that of the other character. Terezi, upon seeing God Tier!Aradia, flirted with her and continually called her cute. -> Jake is adventurous. Terezi may flirt with and call him cute.

Then we need to come up with a general consensus of how they might react to each other and try to bend it into canon when/if Hussie has them meet. I have a general idea of how to split up jobs but I want to run it through one or both of the Vice Palhonchos. I'll put out more information later this week.

On the note of general consensuses, soon we're also going to need to go through our distinct headcanons for each character and consolidate them to fit into either character so that when we write/art, we're always creating the same, stock Jake and Terezi. More on this later.

Bonus Round Zero was announced at midnight and we’re more or less ready to get at ‘em!

Alright, so the clarify, br0 is the first bonus round and is the only one to take place before the games. As to create a sense of comradery between the teams and maintain the spirit of HSO, they have it set up so that we are only allowed to make fills for another ship. This is super awesome for reasons I listed in an earlier post.

If you didn’t read the posts on the HSO main page, catch up here. The bonus rounds are rounds in which prompts are provided to the entire team where each person may submit an entry, or multiple entries for points.

The first bonus round requires us to make a set of 2-6 icons and/or 1-3 banners for another ship. The first five submissions per team will receive ten points each, and each subsequent submission will receive five, however, anything past the eleventh submission will not receive points.

Cool! First, I want to request that we all put in something for the bonus round. It may seem sort of annoying and maybe even overwhelming but icons and banners are generally very easy to make. (Bear in mind that you can use fan art previously created as long as you have permission from the artist!) I would like to fill the maximum amount of submissions for points at ten fills, which would mean that five of us would make one entry and three of us would make two. Additionally, I’d really like it if all of us would do a different ship so that we get to spread the love liberally.

Hello there!

Mostly everyone has joined this community (with the exception of Kristina/ruemasde - you buttmunch I am going to hunt you down) so I guess we can more or less start doing things. Well, more things.

So I want to tackle the first thing I brought up the other day, which was joining the community, confirming our accounts, and customization.

• Joining the Community
This is more or less done! Super thanks to Keyra/volatiletimes for being the first to join via accepting the provided request, Ally/thatfeatheryprick for actually taking the effort to find the 'join community' button and sending a request herself (which I actually didn't notice at first - sorry again!), and Georgia/mouseflower for following directions like a pro.

As for Valerie/valjameslynn and Skye/undermutt, I kind of used my palhoncho-privileges to add you to the comm. Valerie because she's a sick moirail and Skye because I'm not sure she knows her password. This will probably be the last time I do something like that, so please be on top of things guys!

Kristina/ruemasde - please get savvy to the program. I can lead an assbaka to water but I can't make them drink (:

• Confirm Your Accounts
It's pretty simple - after signing up for Dreamwidth, they'll send you an email requesting that you confirm your account. Please do this as soon as you can if you haven't already!

• Customization
That's regarding our general community appearance and icon. I've asked Ally/thatfeatheryprick to make us an icon and hopefully she'll stick to it and do it :D.

• Bonus Round Information
I'm aware of the fact that not all of you know every detail of the games, or bonus rounds, specifically. Basically, we will be given a prompt on something to create (one that will probably be for a ship other than our own) and will have a week (confirmation necessary) to fill it. Each prompt submitted will give our team points!

Things awesome about this:
(1) It's usually for another team.
(2) They're quick and easy to do.
(3) You get points - no votes necessary!
(4) More than one person can submit for the bonus rounds, and I'm pretty sure that more than one fill per person can be submitted.

The fact that most bonus round prompts will require us to do something for another team - while still giving points to our team - is super neat! I know that Jake<3Terezi is probably way down low on your shipping wall, if it's present at all, so this gives you a chance to provide support for your actual OTPs. Go crazy with it!

The bonus round prompts from last year seemed simple enough to comply to. I expect them to be nice and painless this year too (:

The vote system isn't really present here, from what I've deduced. This gives us a huuugeee shot and I want to take advantage of it! Since it's possible that we won't even get one vote for the main round entries, getting free points that rely on only us is pretty sweet.

We can really stock up on points if all of us can provide multiple fanworks! Do I need to explain why? (;

I'll post more regarding the bonus rounds when the first prompt goes up later today!

• Pre-Game Promotional
Please reblog/post the banner found here and comment on the post with the link if you have not done so already. We need all the points we can get. The mods didn't specify a date in which this is due by, but since it says pre-game, it's definitely implied that we need to do this soon.

If you have done any of these things, please notify me in some way. You guys see me pretty much everyday and have various accounts of mine in which to contact me and I'll post everything up in a member-only post soon. I am holding you responsible for this. Starting May 28th, each one of you will be required to comment on our comm or shoot me an email saying that you are here and still on the team. I am so scared that you guys don't go through the HSO info pages or this community or won't listen to me or don't really want to participate this at all, so I may sort of mention roll call in person, but please do this. • Frequency of Viewing HSO-related Information
I don't expect you guys to refresh the main olympics page or this comm page every other minute, but please try and check at least this page out once or twice a day. I'll contact you if anything urgent happens regardless, but doing these regular checks would be awesome and would make my job way easier.

Hi guys!

First, I wanted to say thank you so much for humoring me and joining this team for HSO - we'll have a lot of fun (:

I will admit that I have just as much experience with Dreamwidth as you do, as in, this is my first time using it. It's simple enough to figure out but if you're beyond confused feel free to contact me. Also give me a shout if you absolutely hate this theme, or something.

Next, I'd like you guys to note that there are a few differences that, together, separate us and most (if not every) other team participating in the Homestuck Shipping Olympics this year. Of those couple of differences, two stand out more than the others:

The characters in our ship have yet to meet
We all know each other

These two things can make a huge impact on how we do as a team, depending on how we use them.

The fact that we captain such an odd ship ensures that we can't go wrong. They have never met in canon (as of yet) and we have no idea how they'll react to each other so - guess what - we get to make it up! And take voting into account. Voters can vote for up to five ships and chances are they'll flock to their OTPs first, then to the craziest of crack pairs second. Since Jake<3Terezi isn't something one would usually think of, we may actually attract attention. Basically: If we put effort into our fills, we will get votes.

We all know each other, to a point, and most (or all) of us even live in the same borough. This is super convenient and I don't think I necessarily have to say why because, hello.

And there are a couple of things that I want to cover before the games start:

Confirming accounts + joining the community + customize
Introductions + discovering our potential as a team
Snag some easy points
Meeting our characters and defining what their relationship is/will be like

Guys, please confirm your Dreamwidth accounts if you have not done so already and join this community. If you don't do this soon, I will pester you until you do - we go to the same school - you can't avoid me.

And would anyone be willing to make a shippy icon for the community? If no one steps up to the plate I'll make it stupid stripes and a heart. Yes.

After everyone is nice and tidy in the group, I'll make an introductory post in which we find out what we can bring to the group, where we want to go with this ship, and generally who we are (if any of us aren't fully familiar with each other, which is sort of the case). Hopefully we'll get some other members (maybe who we don't know?) by the time the games start, but this step is going to be necessary regardless!

Snagging some easy points - if you reblog the HSO pre-game promotional post on tumblr and add a link to the the comments of that page, we'll get +5 points per person! More points if you post it to other blogs/Facebook/whatever. It's an easy way to start stocking up, no?

And finally, we know who Jake and Terezi are, but how good is our characterization of them? How would they react to each other and how do they act around others? To make sure that they stick as close to canon as possible, we're going to have to read and analyze. Don't worry about it too much - I'll probably just make a post of required reading and we'll sort out our headcanons or something.
